With week five upon us, the experimental serial novel The Misadventures of Ernest Fletcher Quick shifts into another gear. With installment five, one of the great journalists (and self-confessed cowards) of the 20th century faces the music at home, then finds his way to New York City where he encounters a whole new kind of trouble. From there the action really takes off as he heads into the Big Apple’s legendary “Tenderloin” district, meets Bailey Stewart, Diamond Jim Brady, George Luks (the man who invented the comic strip) and several dozen of New York’s finest.
Teddy Roosevelt (who you’ll meet later in the memoirs) says it’s a “bully idea” to take a break and ride along!
