We’ve made downloading each episode of The Misadventures of Ernest Fletcher Quick as easy as possible. But if you have questions, here’s some help…
1. Can I read the episodes on my computer, phone, tablet or reader (Kindle, Nook, Kobo etc.) after I downlaod them?
You can if you have the correct e-reader software loaded on the device to which you are downloading the episodes. You just have to be sure to download the correct format. They should then open and read like any other e-book.
2. How do I know what is the correct format?
We’re covering all e-readers. Basically there are two formats: .mobi files for Kindle, and ePub files for virtually every other reader (iBook, Nook, Stanza, Kobo, Adobe Digital Reader, Google etc.). Simply go to the top right side of this page and click the download button for either “Kindle” or “Others” depending on which file works best for you. If you use a Kindle Reader or eReader software, download the Kindle file. If not, download the “Other” file. Once you have downloaded your file, open your e-reader software on your device and then select the file you just downloaded to open it and start reading!
3. I have a Kindle and have downloaded the .mobi (Kindle) file from www.chipwalter.com/Quick, but still can’t open it.
This answer comes from Mark McDade who encountered this problem. ATTENTION KINDLE USERS: sometimes (maybe always?), the Kindle simply will not recognize eBooks not purchased thru Amazon. Doesn’t matter if they are.MOBI format. No Amazon, no book for you!
If you have that issue (and even if you don’t!), I recommend you go to http://www.aldiko.com/ and download their free book reader. Aldiko will enable you to read the EPUB format (Nook, iBook, and most eveything else not Kindle) on your Kindle. I finally tried this for myself when I couldn’t see The Misadventures of Ernest Fletcher Quick… and it worked like a charm! Here is the step by step: (1) I downloaded and installed Aldiko. (2) I downloaded the EPUB (Nook) version of EFQ to my Kindle. (3) I opened EFQ via Aldiko and voila — I had my book! AND, the kicker is this… going forward, I should be able to read most any eBook whether it comes from Amazon or not.
3. What if I don’t have any e-reader software on my device?
We’ve provided links to all the major varieties and then some. They are listed on the right side of this page below the episode download buttons – Adobe Digital Reader, Kobi, Kindle, Nook, iBook etc. It’s easy to download e-reader software, and they are all very good. For reading on your computer (Mac or PC), Adobe Digital Reader seems to be the simplest. Just visit this link, and click the link to download the software for your computer. Install it and then open Adobe Digital Reader. Once it’s open select “Add to my Library” from Adobe Digital Reader’s “File” menu, and then click on the file(s) you downloaded. They’ll be added to the library where you can then open them and read them.
4. I have a Kindle, Nook, Kobo or iPad. I usually download books from their stores where I have an account. Can I do that?
You can. It’s up to you, but stores like Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com set minimum prices for all e-Books. To try to be fair, we have provided special multi-episode editions of Misadventures at those two stores. At Amazon.com, you can buy the first four episodes beginning July 15, 2013 for $2.99 to read on your Kindle. The next four episodes will be available for $2.99 August 12. Or you can purchase the first three episodes at BarnesandNoble.com for 99¢ to read on your Nook. The next three will be available August 5th. The advantage of buying them is that you don’t have to wait a week to get the next episode.
If we could have provided single episodes for free at these stores we would have, but we don’t control their policies. You can also “buy” free single episodes at the Apple iBookstore and open them on your iPad or iPhone, or at Kobo.com if you already have a Kobo e-reader device or software. You can download from these sites either because it’s simpler for you, or because you want to read more episodes at once. It’s entirely up to you.
5. When I open the book, the type looks strange.
Only you have control over the size and format of the type in your e-reader so that you can adjust the look of the book to suit you. Just check the “preferences” in the e-reader software you have, or on your device, and adjust them so the book’s format and fonts are more to your liking.
6. I am having trouble downloading the file on my iPad.
The iPad seems to struggle a bit with the download links/buttons at www.chipwalter.com/quick for reasons we can’t fathom. Try this: navigate to the www.chipwalter.com/quick page on your iPad, tap the link or button once to “select” the episode you want to download. Then tap it again. The file should then download immediately to your iPad.
Failing that, open the iBook app on your iPad, then click the link in the upper left corner to go to the iBookstore, then type in “The Misadventures of Ernest Fletcher Quick” in the search area at the top right of your iPad. This will take you to all available episodes and from there you can instantly download them to your iPad and start reading!
